Robust, Nitrided HSS, 1" x 5/16" Large Skew with Maple Handle
All Skews from Robust Tools are manufactured in the United States using premium high speed steel (HSS). Each tool is treated with a proprietary Nitriding process which results in significantly improved edge-holding and reduced sharpening.
After machining the tools to shape, they are heat-treated 62-64 Rockwell C. The hardened tools then go through the Nitriding process, increasing surface hardness to 1880 Vickers (75+ Rockwell C). Because the treatment is diffused into the metal itself, it will not flake, peel or chip. The tools are just as easy to grind as regular HSS and sharpen well on conventional and CBN wheels.
All Robust Skews are flat milled on the top and you can use your sharpening jig all the way down to the end.
Robust combines skillful engineering and quality materials to produce premium woodturning lathes and accessories. Designing from the turners perspective lets you concentrate on turning instead of fussing with your lathe. All Robust lathes and accessories are made in Barneveld, Wisconsin USA by skilled craftsmen.

Robust 1"x5/16 Large Skew
I have several different size skews ranging from 1/2" to 3/4" and one is an oval skew. All serve their purpose but I needed a larger skew for larger pieces. This 1" skew feels good in my hands and makes it safer to turn the bigger pieces . I'm turning 4" mahogany bed posts and this skew leaves a very smooth surface which cuts down on my sanding time. It was sharp right out of the package and although it didn't need it I still touched it up prior to using. Old habits die hard. This is a great tool and addition to my turning tools.
