Good setup for making pens and seam rippers
I purchased this mandrel bundle from TWS . What I like about this mandrel set is the live tailstock end provides better support for the turning and appropriate even pressure to turning the blank. I would definitely recommend the Hurricane Pen Mandrel Bundle with the Mandrel saver to pen turners.

The MANDREL SAVER performs as advertised.
I have purchased several (over ten) of these mandrel savers and have been happy with them they make it much easier for beginners as well as experienced turners to turn pens, pencils, etc. (anything that requires the use of a mandrel. Besides saving the mandrel by putting the thrust pressure on the bushings and the object to be turned rather than the mandrel, we (my grandkids and I) have discovered that this pressure makes it easier to use CA as a finish. The saver will normally last for 50 or more pens. With the pressure on the saver bearings, they do wear out. But I am not complaining. We love them.

Pen Mandrel with mandrel saver
Every pen turner should pick up one of these mandrels. I like the mandrel saver a little better than the collet type because you are moving the tailstock each time you load a pen, why not just slide it off the mandrel and not worry about a brass nut. Just my opinion, I know other turners who like the collet type
